Mack Wilson Sr. has his share of monikers. His rap brandis Rocketship, and well before he arrived in Arizona in 2024, he leaned into the "1 of 1" mindset. So once jersey No. 1 became available after Kyler Murray was released, it wasn't a surprise that Wilson would've had it in his sights.

Wilson let the world know on Thursdaythrough various social media poststhat he will be wearing No. 1 this season. He wore No. 2 previously.

Some kind of change for Wilson was coming. That we knew, since cornerback Will Johnsonhad already acknowledgedthat he too would be changing from his No. 0 last year to No. 2.

There are always a bunch of jersey number changes, and with how much the single-digit numbers are coveted, that's not a shock. As it stands now, No. 0 and No. 4 (vacant after the departure of Greg Dortch) are open. (No. 8 is retired for Hall of Famer Larry Wilson.)

It's interesting to note that other than No. 0 -- which wasn't even allowed as a jersey option until 2023 -- No. 1 had only been worn by five players in the 100-plus-year history of the franchise prior to Murray. Before Kyler was drafted, the most famous No. 1 was kicker Neil Rackers from 2003-2009. The last player to wear it before Murray? Kicker Matt McCrane in 2018. McCrane only appeared in one game.
