THE STORY:With 2:05 left in the fourth quarter, a fourth-and-1 stand by Calais Campbell and Dalvin Tomlinson put the ball back in the Cardinals' hands with an opportunity to tie the game.
A diving interception by C.J. Henderson ended that chance, giving the Falcons the 26-19 victory at State Farm Stadium o Sunday.
The game started well for the Cardinals (3-12). QB Jacoby Brissett and the offense opened up the game with four straight scoring drives for the first time this season and held a double-digit lead early in the game. Michael Wilson had another highlight-reel grab, pinning the loose football between his thighs to score a touchdown.
Wilson's college teammate, Elijah Higgins, also had a career-day, finishing the outing with a career-high 91 receiving yards. Brissett finished the game 16-of-31 for 203 yards.
But after an early interception by Kirk Cousins, the Falcons (6-9) scored on their next five possessions. A main focus heading into Sunday's outing was to contain Falcons running back Bijan Robinson, but the Arizona native proved why he's one of the best players in the league, finishing the game as the Falcons' leading rusher and receiver. He also had a receiving touchdown.
Falling in the home finale will sting for the Cardinals, but it's the injuries that might linger even longer. Both cornerback Garrett Williams and Walter Nolen III were carted off the field with non-contact injuries. Williams' Achilles injury occurred in the second quarter, while Nolen's knee issue happened in the first drive of the second half. The Cardinals also lost outside linebacker Josh Sweat for the afternoon with an ankle injury.
