NCAA clears USF QB Kean of suspension

Sports Xchange - Friday 10th August, 2018

Brett Kean, competing for the starting job at South Florida, will not face a suspension to start the season.

Bulls head coach Charlie Strong on Wednesday confirmed that the NCAA cleared Kean of an academic-related issue that was expected to sideline him for two games.

"Brett Kean, yes, he was cleared with the NCAA," Strong told reporters, per WFLA.com. "He will not have to sit the two games and he will be ready to go."

The television station reported that Kean initially faced a four-game suspension, but that had been reduced to a two-game ban. Kean subsequently filed a waiver to appeal the punishment.

Kean is battling Arizona State transfer Blake Barnett and Chris Oladokun for USF's starting quarterback job. They are vying to replace Quinton Flowers, who started 38 straight games for the Bulls.

The top backup to Flowers the past two seasons, Kean has appeared in 14 games during that time, completing 25 of 37 passes for 193 yards.
